Polio, a highly contagious viral disease that can cause irreversible paralysis in children, has been nearly eradicated globally thanks to widespread vaccination campaigns. However, polio remains a threat in some regions, and Uganda is no exception. Despite being declared polio-free in 2000, the country remains at risk due to cross-border transmission from neighboring countries. Continued vaccination efforts are critical to maintaining Uganda’s polio-free status and protecting the next generation.

Rotary’s network of volunteers and local clubs works tirelessly to raise awareness about the importance of polio immunization and to encourage parents to vaccinate their children. The partnership with People’s Medical Hospital enhances these efforts by offering critical healthcare infrastructure and expertise in areas that need it most, especially in rural and underserved communities where access to healthcare can be limited.

The End Polio Now campaign is closer than ever to achieving its goal, but the work is not over. With the support of dedicated partners, like People’s Medical Hospital, Uganda is poised to remain polio-free and protect the health of its children for generations to come.
